Overland Adventures

Overland Adventures Biography
Magnificent Morocco – a family adventure
Oasis Overland traveller Ben recently visited Morocco on one of our
family adventures.  He has written the following blog  to share his
experiences.
Over the period of the 25th of October- 5th of November I visited
Morocco with my family and some close friends of ours.   We began our
journey in Marrakesh where we arrived at approximately mid-day.  The
sun beamed down, and the dreary gloom of  England had been pushed to
the back of our minds.  The 12 day adventure of our Morocco trip
brought many memorable  experiences and moments we would all look back
on and laugh at in the future.
Meeting our guide was a nervy experience for everyone as there was
high anticipation to see what he would be like.   Luckily, we were
blessed with a pleasant Moroccan man called Mustapha, who throughout
the trip shared his knowledge on the  surroundings, and gave his all
to making sure we had the best experience in the country possible.  We
were referred to as  his “favourite ever tour group”, and this was
evident when he took us to visit his family where we were proudly
introduced  to each member.  The boys were even enticed into a
kick-about with the locals, where, of course, England had to put
Morocco to shame! We were also introduced to the traditional mint tea,
which became an iconic part of our trip; along with  the variety of
Tagienes we were offered.  We were pleasantly surprised with the
standard of food and hygiene throughout  our Morocco trip.
Along the way we visited some fascinating locations.  The stunning
roads that climb the famous Atlas Mountains were  incredible, although
at the time it seemed somewhat dangerous!  On the 29th came my
personal highlight of the trip, where  after a long journey, we rode
Camels into the sunset through the iconic Sahara desert!  This was
such a fantastic  experience, and was matched by the following evening
which we spent sleeping under the stars at a Berber camp and enjoying
ourselves with the locals.
There is so much that could be mentioned, but it is hard to condense
the memorable experiences into
such a short space!  Other highlights included visiting Ait Benhaddou
and witnessing the fortified city, visiting the  famous film studios
in Ourzazate and concluding our family adventure trip with a return to
the chaotic, but fascinating  Marrakesh.  Overall, our trip was a
fantastic opportunity to escape during the half-term, witness the
culture that this  extraordinary country has to offer, visiting some
memorable landmarks, along with experiencing Morocco on a personal
level. The trip will live long in the memory, and I still remember the
depressing feeling of touching down at Gatwick  airport with the
realisation that it was all over!
